Ricci Levy of Woodhull Freedom Foundation is this Week’s Guest on Adult Site Broker Talk.
Ricci has been engaged in sexual freedom activism for several decades.
In 2003, she helped found the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, a nonpartisan, nonprofit human rights organization dedicated to defending the personal autonomy of all individuals.
As the Executive Director, then President and CEO, Ricci has led Woodhull for more than twenty years.
Ricci has traveled extensively throughout the country, providing testimony and speaking at conferences. She frequently presents contentious issues in a manner that facilitates collaborative dialogue, thereby fostering alliances and connections.
Ricci is at the forefront of the discourse, bringing human rights to the forefront, whether the topic is censorship, the decriminalization of sex work, the shackling of incarcerated women in labor, or the right to family and reproductive justice.
Since its inception, the Foundation has argued that sexual freedom should be recognized as a fundamental human right, along with other hard-fought liberties such as the right to family, the right to privacy, and freedom of expression.
Woodhull serves as an umbrella advocate for sexual rights as a whole, working alongside allies who represent specific issues, identities, and communities, whether it be through discussions with students about the legitimacy of all consenting families or successfully imploring Congress to eliminate condoms as evidence of prostitution.
The Woodhull Freedom Foundation is dedicated to modifying laws, policies, and practices associated with various issues, all of which share the commonality of denying or threatening our fundamental human right to sexual freedom. Woodhull played a critical role in the inclusion of domestic partner benefits as a component of same-sex marriage, a detail that was at risk in the original legislation.
They were instrumental in the termination of Washington DC’s “Prostitution Free Zones,” which violated legally defensible rights. Additionally, they testified and lobbied from a human rights perspective in support of efforts to end the practice of shackling incarcerated women during labor and childbirth in Florida prisons.
Woodhull also effectively advocated for the modification of the laws governing sexting between minors.
In addition to promoting legislative, judicial, and corporate accountability and progress, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation is the foremost voice at the intersection of human rights and sexual rights, advocating for protecting human rights, including those related to sexual freedom, rather than their restriction.
The only Federal challenge to the lethal FOSTA unconstitutional legislation was the Woodhull Freedom Foundation versus the United States, in which Woodhull was the principal plaintiff.
