Jamey Bell of PASS is this Week’s Guest on Adult Site Broker Talk
Jamey Bell is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner and is the Medical Director of the Sexual Health Program at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the largest facility in the world providing health and social services to the LGBTQ+ community.
Jamey also serves as Medical Director of PASS, the non-profit organization dedicated to the health and safety of adult industry workers.
Jamey joined the board of directors of PASS in 2021 and was named Medical Director in September 2023. He is a strong supporter of sex workers’ rights and safe, easy access to healthcare for people in the Adult Industry.
For more than 20 years, Jamey has worked in healthcare, focused on social justice in healthcare for underserved groups. He combines clinical knowledge with compassion and care for his patients and the community.
Both of Jamey’s master’s degrees are in nursing and community health. He graduated with honors from Indiana’s Ball State University.
In fact, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners has given him a board certification.
The Free Speech Coalition created PASS in April 2011 to build on a previous program that helped standardize and monitor tests in the adult business.
PASS works with groups in the US and Canada that test for STIs and other diseases. These groups then send PASS information about work clearance back to their database.
In May 2021, PASS started running as its own group.
The PASS database only holds “work clearance” data that is either “yes” or “no.” This means that test results are not uploaded individually to PASS.
Based on the results from the testing panel, clinical staff with the right licenses at the testing partner decide if the person is cleared to work.
For seven STIs, the testing process calls for nine different tests.
Clearance is given for 14 days from the date of the first sample collection.
