A recent UK TV documentary about revenge porn has reportedly seen a huge rise in the amount of complaints about the crime, according to The Independent.
The one-off programme saw investigative journalist and presenter Anna Richardson post her own photos on a notorious revenge porn site, resulting in large amounts of misogynistic abuse.
Complaints about the crime saw an average week’s worth number of calls made in the space of just 48 hours. Clearly the show has helped to make awareness of what exactly the crime is more precise.
That might be the key here. I get the impression that many victims don’t actually fully understand what constitutes a crime in this instance and hopefully it will be a lot clearer. In fact, not for victims but for anyone considering sharing such material. Prevention needs to be undertaken as well.
